The majestic pattern of the Samarkand Blue is derived from one of the interior domes of the Registan Square in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The blue-white variegated pattern at the center fades to inky black at the dial periphery. Hands and hour markers in white complete this striking design.
The Registan Square, also known as the Registan Ensemble or Registan Complex, is one of the most iconic and historic architectural landmarks in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It is a magnificent public square adorned with three grand madrasas (Islamic schools) known for their stunning Islamic architecture and intricate tilework. The name "Registan" translates to "Sandy Place" in Persian, referring to the square's historical location on the ancient Silk Road.
The Registan Square has played a central role in the history of Samarkand. It was a bustling center for trade, culture, and scholarship during the Silk Road era. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of Uzbekistan's rich cultural heritage.
